Leaked iPhone 16 dummy units show design changes for all four phones
Were expecting quite a few design changes and new hardware features across the iPhone 16 line, and now were not limited to seeing these just in renders, as metal dummy units of the phones have also leaked.
Photos shared by Sonny Dickson on X (via 9to5Mac) show dummy units of all four expected phones the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max from a variety of angles, highlighting key details.
Those details include a new Capture button for all four models. This is shown on the right edge, and based on previous leaks is expected to work as a shortcut to camera functions like recording videos and taking photos.
We can also see that all four dummy units have an Action button on the left edge. This customizable shortcut is already present on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, but were expecting all four iPhone 16 models to have it.
The other big visual change here is to the cameras on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which are shown with vertically aligned lenses rather than the diagonal layout of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This change has been rumored for a while, and its speculated that the new arrangement will allow them to record spatial video for the Apple Vision Pro.
Beyond that, it looks like the iPhone 16 Pro is slightly larger than the iPhone 16, and that the iPhone 16 Pro Max is a little larger than the iPhone 16 Plus. That would be a change from the current models, but in line with leaks suggesting that the iPhone 16 Pro will grow to 6.3 inches (up from 6.1), and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be 6.9 inches (up from 6.7).
Credible, but far from guaranteed
Given that all of these things have leaked extensively before theres a good chance the details here are accurate, but as always we'll take them with a pinch of salt for now.

Dummy units are often used by case makers to ensure their cases fit the upcoming phones, so the details tend to be fairly accurate; however theres no guarantee of that, especially as we dont know the source of these leaked dummies.
We expect a much clearer picture of these phones to emerge over the coming months, as information is sure to keep leaking ahead of their launch, which will almost certainly happen in September.

Dummy model leak shows off Apples new iPhone 16 designs
iPhone 16 design details have been leaking left and right for months to the point where I think I know what to expect from this years iPhone upgrade.
Even without the leaks, its not like Id expect big surprises. Its not just the fact that Im used to Apples policy of going for incremental updates for the iPhone each year. Its that weve reached a point in smartphone history where its very difficult to come up with brand-new designs every year.
Fast-forward to early April, and we have a big iPhone 16 leak to inspect. Like every year, the first round of dummy units for the next-gen iPhone 16 have leaked. These metal devices should inform accessory makers about the next-gen iPhone design so they can prepare accordingly.
The leak seemingly confirms everything we heard from previous rumors. But the best part about it is that it puts the iPhone 16 next to the iPhone 16 Pro. Its the kind of comparison Ive been looking forward to. The leaks indicate that the latter wont be much bigger than the base model despite supposedly rocking a bigger screen. Thats great news, assuming its accurate.

I dont want the Pros to get that much bigger, though the screen bump is appreciated. The iPhone 16 Pro display will reach 6.3 inches this year. The 16 Pro Max will feature a 6.9-inch display. Both displays are going to be 0.2 inches larger than the non-Pro units.
Apple reportedly wants to place a tetraprism camera on the smaller iPhone 16 Pro, and the zoom lens will take up more space inside. The iPhone 16 Pro has to be slightly bigger than its predecessor. The iPhone 16 Pro Max would have to get the same size increase, so the size differences between the Pro and Pro Max remain consistent with predecessors.
As you can see in Sonny Dicksons photos below, the size differences between the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro are almost imperceptible. The same goes for the iPhone 16 Plus and 16 Pro Max. I suspect the Pros are slightly taller and wider, but not by much. Apple can also increase the display by going for slimmer bezels on the Pro.
I do hope that the leak is accurate. I know Ill get one of the iPhone 16 models this year, but I havent decided which one to get.
One thing thats not immediately clear is the thickness of the four iPhone 16 versions. But well likely see plenty of dummy units leak by September, complete with size information.
The iPhone 16 dummy units also highlight other important design changes coming to the iPhone 16 series. As you can see, all models will get an Action button this year. The feature was reserved for the iPhone 15 Pros last year.
Also, all four iPhone 16 phones will feature a Capture button on the same side as the Power button. Ive been thinking a lot about the iPhone 16s Capture button lately, and I think itll benefit the camera experience greatly.
Finally, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus dummy units feature vertical cameras. Thats what all rumors say. Apple reportedly wants to make spatial videos possible on non-Pro iPhones, and you need the cameras stacked vertically for that. The camera module is similar to the iPhone X but larger since these are newer cameras.
